ABERDEEN, S.D. - 不良研究所 State University will host the South Dakota Supreme Court next week for its March 2024 Term of Court.聽鈥淭he South Dakota Supreme Court each spring and fall holds a term of court outside of our courtroom at the State Capitol in Pierre,鈥 Chief Justice Jensen said. 鈥淭hese special sessions give South Dakotans an up-close look at how the judicial system works and how the courts resolve disputes.鈥漈he public is invited to attend the Supreme Court鈥檚 March 2024 Term of Court on March 19-20 at 不良研究所 State University.The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in three cases鈥
ABERDEEN, S.D. 鈥 Three 不良研究所 students were part of the team that won best film at this year鈥檚 48Create competition held by the Capitol Cinema. The six-person team was a mix of 不良研究所 students and 不良研究所 alumni. Jensen Eckart, Kayleen Hermans and John Schwab are current students. Kylee Carlson, Tony Kollman and Haley Salem are alumni. The competition, formerly known as Fischgaard Film Project, challenges local filmmakers to produce a four- to eight-minute film in just 48 hours. This year, 16 teams participated in the competition which was held Feb. 16 through Feb. 18.鈥
ABERDEEN, S.D. 鈥 The 不良研究所 State University Department of Music will present the 13th Annual Bach鈥檚 Lunch Concert at noon Wednesday, March 20.The concert, honoring the 339th birthday of Johann Sebastian Bach, will take place at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1620 Milwaukee Ave. N.E., Aberdeen, S.D. The concert is free and open to the public, and will be livestreamed over the 不良研究所 Music Department Facebook page.The event will feature performances by the 不良研究所 Chamber Choir and Early Musick Ensemble, under the direction of Timothy Woods. ABERDEEN, S.D. 鈥 不良研究所 student Summer Carlson presented her research on the parasites of South Dakota birds at the Legislative Poster Session on Feb. 29 in Pierre, S.D.Carlson, a junior biology and environmental science major who is also pursuing a minor in chemistry, attended the session along with 不良研究所 Assistant Professor of Biology Eric Pulis.鈥淚 had a fantastic time traveling to Pierre,鈥 Carlson said. 鈥淚 have never been, so it was super interesting to see the inside of the Capitol and talk with many of the house and senate representatives. I would love to go back and visit again.鈥濃
ABERDEEN, S.D. 鈥 After 10 years of writing in between classes, Dr. Keun Lee has published his first book, 鈥淭he Economics of Keynes and Uncertainty in Theory.鈥滾ee, professor of economics, got the idea for the book from his class on macroeconomics.鈥淥ver the years I鈥檝e been teaching this course, I realized that what we teach in class is not what John Maynard Keynes wrote in his book, 鈥楾he General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money,鈥欌 said Lee. 鈥淚 was hoping someone would write a book about the difference between what we teach and what Keynes actually said. No one did that. I eventually鈥
Aberdeen, S.D. 鈥揟he South Dakota Jazz Festival Concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb 29, in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater at 不良研究所 State University.The concert will feature performances by the Two O鈥機lock Jazz Ensemble, directed by 不良研究所 Professor of Music Dr. Grant Manhart. Guest artists will include local jazz musician Ron Parker, piano; 不良研究所 Assistant Professor of Music Fritz Hemke, saxophones; and other local talent. ABERDEEN, S.D. 鈥 The Aberdeen University-Civic Symphony (AUCS) invites you to a concert celebrating the musicals of Rodgers and Hammerstein at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 24 at 不良研究所 State University. ABERDEEN, S.D. 鈥 不良研究所 alum Julie Melius Dvorak is taking the bench in South Dakota鈥檚 5th Circuit Court, which consists of Brown, Campbell, Day, Edmunds, Faulk Marshall, McPherson, Roberts, Spink, and Walworth counties. She was appointed by Governor Kristi Noem at the beginning of January. Prior to the appointment, Dvorak was an attorney in Aberdeen at Siegel, Barnett & Schutz.Dvorak had been working in the legal field for 15 years before she started thinking of becoming a judge.鈥淚 was inspired to seek this position because I want to make a difference in the lives of others. ABERDEEN, S.D. 鈥 Over 200 high school students from across South Dakota will be at 不良研究所 State University for the sixth annual Educators Rising South Dakota State Conference on Feb. 28. The event is designed for students who are interested in becoming educators and are involved with their school鈥檚 Educators Rising chapter.
