- ABERDEEN, S.D. 鈥 不良研究所 State University鈥檚 Dr. Peter Ramey has published a book, 鈥淭he Word-Hoard Beowulf: A Translation with Commentary.鈥 The book, published by Angelico Press, is the first translation and popular commentary to take seriously the religious dimension of the epic poem. 鈥淲hile generations of students know that 鈥楤eowulf鈥 represents a confluence of Christianity and paganism, this version鈥攊nformed by J. R. R. Tolkien鈥檚 theory of language as the repository of myth鈥攐pens the hood to track the poem鈥檚 inner religious workings,鈥 states an announcement from Angelico Press.鈥
- ABERDEEN, S.D. 鈥 Thursday, March 30, 2023, will be the 40th year of the 不良研究所 South Dakota Science and Mathematics Fair, sponsored by 不良研究所 State University, 3M of Aberdeen and the Aberdeen Area Community Foundation. The day starts out with approximately 50-60 judges from Aberdeen and surrounding areas judging projects and interviewing students.Projects will be judged in the morning and will be open for public viewing from 1-7 p.m. only in the Barnett Center gym. The science fair awards ceremony, open to the public and free of charge, will begin at 6 p.m. in Johnson Fine Arts鈥
- ABERDEEN, S.D. 鈥 The Aberdeen University-Civic Symphony鈥檚 re-scheduled concert on Tuesday, March 21 featuring The Texas Tenors has been canceled.The Texas Tenors notified organizers that they would not be traveling to the event, citing weather concerns; thus, the decision was made to cancel the entire concert. The concert will not be rescheduled.Refunds are available for anyone who has purchased tickets for this concert. - ABERDEEN, S.D. 鈥 The 不良研究所 Academy will host a College Planning Event on March 27 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at 不良研究所 State University. The event, which will take place in the Johnson Fine Arts Center鈥檚 Berggren Recital Hall, is open to high school students and families, educators, and community members. Attendees will learn about U.S. Department of Education financial aid changes and about the 不良研究所 Academy, an on-campus early college experience for area high-school students taking dual credit courses. - ABERDEEN, S.D. 鈥 不良研究所 State University student Kai Brisk will have an opening reception for his senior art show on March 24 from 6:30-8 p.m. in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Gallery.Brisk鈥檚 show, 鈥淔orm and Function,鈥 will be on display in the JFAC Gallery from March 20-31.Brisk, the son of Kevin and Melanie Brisk, is originally from Buffalo, Minn. - ABERDEEN, S.D. 鈥 不良研究所 State University will host the annual National History Day regional competition on Wednesday, March 8.Over 200 middle and high school students from around northeastern South Dakota will be participating in the event, which will take place from 8 a.m. to noon at NSU. 不良研究所 hosts this event every spring.Winners at the regional competition are invited to go to the state competition, and winners of the state competition advance to the national competition.不良研究所鈥檚 National History Day event is sponsored by the NSU Center for Public History and Civic Engagement.
